So why exactly 14 days?
Three reasons.

Each of these requires more than a week of focused work. None of them requires more than two.
It's short enough that scope can't drift. Once the engagement starts, every day is a counted day. The mid-engagement checkpoint at day 7 isn't optional. The delivery walkthrough at day 14 isn't optional. Scope creep gets caught at the checkpoint and either adjusted formally or carried into a separate engagement. It does not silently expand the sprint.

The discipline cuts both ways. Three things explicitly out of scope.
Multi-department transformations. A full sales-department AI rebuild plus marketing automation plus support concierge plus internal operations RAG system isn't one sprint. It's three to five sequenced sprints. Or a Tier 4 enterprise build at custom-quote scope.
Custom model training. Fine-tuning a foundation model on the client's data. Training a custom embedding model. Building a domain-specific reasoning system. These are research-cycle work, not implementation work. We don't run them in sprint cadence — we name them honestly during scoping and either decline or rescope.
Workflows requiring upstream data cleanup. If the client's CRM data is inconsistent. If their PMS has no API. If their content management system doesn't support the structured-data deployment we need. The 14-day sprint is the middle rung. Most clients enter via the free audit. Then ship a Tier 1 7-day fix as proof-of-work. Then commit to a Tier 2 sprint when the first deliverable has shown lift. What does the sprint actually guarantee?
Two contractual guarantees on every Tier 2 sprint.
Ship-date guarantee. Live in 14 business days, or $200/day credit on the engagement value applies until shipped. The credit is structured to align operator and contractor incentives. Neither side wants the date to slip.
Scope-fixity guarantee. The scope agreed at kickoff is the scope shipped at day 14. If the operator wants to add work mid-sprint, it gets handled as a separate engagement, not silently bolted on. Scope-creep at fixed price is how every consulting engagement degrades. The sprint structure prevents it explicitly.
The Tier 3 retainer adds an outcome guarantee on top — 30% AI-citation lift in 90 days or month four is free. That guarantee belongs to the retainer, not the sprint. The sprint guarantees ship date and scope fixity, not downstream outcome.
When is a 14-day sprint the wrong shape?
